Chapter 3

1 TO everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the sun:

2 A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 A time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to lose and a time to seek; a time to tie up and a time to untie;

7 A time to rend and a time to sew; a time to keep silent and a time to speak;

8 A time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

9 What profit has the worker in his labor?

10 I have seen the toil which the LORD has given to the sons of men to be engaged therewith.

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time; also he has made the world dear to man's heart, so that no man can find out the works which the LORD has done from the beginning to the end.

12 I know that there is no good in worldly things, but for men to rejoice and to do good in their lives.

13 And also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor; it is the gift of the LORD.

14 I know that whatsoever the LORD does, it shall be for ever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it; and the LORD has so made it that men should reverence him.

15 That which is now, already has been; and that which is to be, has already been; and God will avenge him who has been persecuted.

16 And moreover, I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

17 I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time for every purpose and for every work.

18 I meditated in my heart concerning the estate of the sons of men whom God had created, and saw that they are like beasts.

19 For the same misfortune which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one misfortune befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that man has no preeminence over the beast; for all is vanity.

20 All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

21 Who knows whether the spirit of men goes upward and the spirit of the beasts goes downward under the earth?

22 Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better in them but that man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion; for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

1 Всему есть своё время, и для каждого дела под небом есть свой час:

2 время рождаться и время умирать; время сажать и время искоренять;

3 время убивать и время исцелять; время разрушать и время строить;

4 время плакать и время смеяться; время скорбеть и время танцевать;

5 время раскидывать камни и время их собирать; время обнимать и время воздерживаться от объятий;

6 время искать и время терять; время хранить и время выбрасывать;

7 время рвать и время сшивать; время молчать и время говорить;

8 время любить и время ненавидеть; время для войны и время для мира.

9 В чём польза работнику от труда его?

10 Я видел бремя, которое Всевышний возложил на людей.

11 Он создал всё прекрасным в своё время. Он также вложил осознание вечности в сердца людей, но они не могут постичь всего, что делает Всевышний, от начала до конца.

12 Я понял, что нет ничего лучше для людей, чем быть счастливыми и делать добро, пока они живы.

13 И если кто-то может есть, пить и находить удовольствие во всяком своём труде, то это дар Всевышнего.

14 Я понял, что всё, что делает Всевышний, пребудет вовек: к этому нечего прибавить и нечего от этого отнять. Всевышний делает так, чтобы люди благоговели перед Ним.

15 Всё, что есть и что будет, уже было прежде, ведь Всевышний повторяет то, что прошло.

16 И вот, что я ещё видел под солнцем:
место суда, а там царит беззаконие,место праведности, а там – несправедливость.

17 И подумал я:
«Всевышний будет судить обоих – праведника и злодея,потому что назначено время всякому событию и всякому делу».

18 И ещё я подумал о людях: «Всевышний испытывает их, чтобы показать им, что они подобны животным.

19 Одна участь у людей и животных: умирают и те, и другие. Одно у тех и у других дыхание, и нет у человека никаких преимуществ перед животными. Всё пустое.

20 Всё возвращается на круги свои: всё пришло из праха, и в прах всё возвратится.

21 Кто знает, поднимается ли дух человека вверх, и опускается ли дух животного вниз, в землю?»

22 И увидел я, что нет ничего лучше для человека, чем наслаждаться своим трудом, потому что такова его доля. Ведь кто может показать ему то, что будет после него?

14 Я понял, что всё, что делает Всевышний, пребудет вовек: к этому нечего прибавить и нечего от этого отнять. Всевышний делает так, чтобы люди благоговели перед Ним.

15 That which is now, already has been; and that which is to be, has already been; and God will avenge him who has been persecuted.

15 Всё, что есть и что будет, уже было прежде, ведь Всевышний повторяет то, что прошло.

19 Одна участь у людей и животных: умирают и те, и другие. Одно у тех и у других дыхание, и нет у человека никаких преимуществ перед животными. Всё пустое.

20 Всё возвращается на круги свои: всё пришло из праха, и в прах всё возвратится.

21 Кто знает, поднимается ли дух человека вверх, и опускается ли дух животного вниз, в землю?»
