Глава 31

1 Слова царя Лемуэля, изречения, которым его научила матушка.

2 «Внемли, сын мой! Внемли, сын утробы моей, сын обетов моих!

3 Не растрачивай на женщин свои силы, своих путей — губительницам царей.

4 Не царям, Лемуэль, не царям пить вино, не владыкам искать хмельной напиток!

5 Иначе напьются они — и забудут законы, бедняков лишат правосудия.

6 Дайте хмельное тому, кто гибнет, и вина — огорченной душе.

7 Выпьет он — и забудет про бедность, о невзгодах своих не вспомнит.

8 Говори за тех, кто безгласен, заступись на суде за бесправных,

9 не молчи, справедливый суд верши, стой в суде за бедняка и нищего».

10 Кто отыщет жену достойную? Она жемчугов дороже.

11 Может муж всецело на нее положиться, и не будет терпеть он убытка:

12 воздает она ему добром, а не злом во все дни жизни своей.

13 Запасается шерстью и льном — всё с охотою делают ее руки.

14 Она словно купеческий корабль: земли дальние ее кормят.

15 Встает ночью, еще до света, чтоб едой снабдить домочадцев и работой — своих служанок.

16 Приглядит она поле — и купит, трудом своих рук средства добыв, и разобьет виноградник.

17 Препоясан стан ее силой, руки крепки во всякой работе.

18 Видит выгоду от своей торговли, и светильник ее в ночи не гаснет.

19 Руки ее держат прялку, пальцы сжимают веретено.

20 Отверзает ладонь для бедного и протягивает руку нуждающемуся.

21 В стужу за семью свою она не боится, все одеты в двойные одежды.

22 И себе она шьет покрывала, одевается в тонкие ткани льняные и пурпур.

23 Уважаем ее муж у городских ворот, восседает он там меж старейшин страны.

24 Шьет она рубашки из тонкой ткани на продажу, пояса поставляет купцам.

25 Облачается в силу и достоинство, новый день встречает улыбкой.

26 Говорит она мудро, к милосердию призывает.

27 За домашним хозяйством зорко следит и хлеб свой ест недаром.

28 Проснутся дети — хвалят ее, да и муж на похвалы не скупится:

29 «Много есть женщин достойных, но ты их всех превосходишь!»

30 Привлекательность обманчива, красота — мимолетна, но жена, благоговеющая пред ГОСПОДОМ, достойна похвалы!

31 Дайте ей вкусить от плодов рук своих, восхваляйте ее дела у ворот городских!
